Hello, everyone! I've been lurking for quite a while and decided to join in the fun today.
I tried to have chickens last year, accidentally.
What I mean is, I was innocently wandering through a local (chain) feed store, and was bombarded with cute baby chicks that I simply had to have. Unfortunately, I knew NOTHING about keeping or raising chickens, and inadvertantly purchased meat birds when what I wanted was layers.
They didn't last long (for obvious reasons), but I was hooked on chicks and decided to research and learn and try again this year. The great chicken fiasco of last year led me to Google, which led me here. Thanks to all of you, I have learned a lot and feel confident enough now to purposely add chickens to my life.
I'm currently awaiting my order of Ameracaunas from Ideal... they should arrive next week. I'll be getting 25 chicks.
In addition to chickens, I have a two pretty big dogs (Bear and Ursa)who don't understand they're not human
, and four pretty small piglets (Hamm, Porky, Wilbur, and Babe) who are too much fun
, and a couple of gerbils (Lewis and Clark) who are incredibly mischevious
.
Oh! I also have some humans in my life, teehee... a very indulgent man who accepts my inability to say "no more animals", and two children, and we all live in upstate NY.
