Hi new here

hi i am new here but have wanted chickens since i was a kid (and that was a long time ago haha)

anyway i finally got 2 this weekend-starting out small

we got 2 RIR hens this past saturday
we debated on whether to get the younger ones and wait for them to lay but decided on the ones that are supposed to lay now
i asked if they were young and the people said yes
(i know duh but this place supposedly gets new chicks each spring)

anyway they havent laid and egg yet-just a whole lotta poop, they finally got a little active today and i am hoping for an egg soon

they seem young-they pretty much look exactly like this

but the combs arent quite as red

hope they lay eggs soon if not i have 2 new pets which is fine (they were confined in a big coop with a ton of chickens and no run or yard-they are also debeaked, i wouldnt have the heart to return them if they dont lay)

anyway hi-i am thrilled with my chickens no matter if they give me eggs or not

Welcome Sammy!!! Give them time to adjust and I'm sure they'll start laying for you in a few weeks. They'll show you how happy they are to have a great home!!

Most hens start to lay around 5 months old (more or less?) Maybe they are still too young yet possilbly?

Welcome! I agree, they may still be too young to lay. Give it some time....they will and you won't be disappointed.

btw that picture isnt of one of my chickens it is from a website but mine are almost identical
