Hello,

I am very new to all of this. I have wanted chickens for some time but was never legally able to. Now that we've bought a new home on a 1 acre lot, I am finally able to have chickens. There is a neglected 8 x 12ft barn in the backyard I'd like to convert into a coop. Is this possible? The floor is very rotted and needs to be replaced, and the barn itself is raised about 1ft off the ground. I ideally want 3 chickens and a peacock for pets and also eggs. I've never raised chickens and have no idea how to do it. Also, the lady next door has a fox she has been feeding for years (it has only 3 legs), and I see it near the barn fairly often. Are chickens and a peacock unreasonable because of the fox next door? How feasible is it to convert a barn into a coop? Also, is the barn too big for 3 chickens? I keep reading 4sq ft per chicken. Is there a good place to get chicks in New Braunfels, TX or near Austin or San Antonio? There is so much information on this site, I'm not even sure where to begin! Any help would be greatly appreciated as to where to even start.

Thank you! *^_^*

Idea poultry is a good place to order from.
I would be worried about the fox, you will need to make sure your run and coop are secure.

Yes be very concerned about that fox!!! The shed sounds great. Just make sure it has plenty of ventilation.
You will have it filled with more chickens in no time so don't worry about it being to big!
Check out the coop and run area and that should give you lots of good ideas for your shed.
