My advice would be to:
Always build your coops tall enough to walk into.
Plan your coops for ease of cleaning & catching a chicken that doesn't want to be caught.
Automatic waterers and feeders are your good friends. They give you more time to enjoy your chickens, instead of hauling feed & water to them all the time.
You don't have to buy expensive nest boxes, they will lay in just about anything that gives them a little privacy.
Protect them from predators and drafts.
Feed good quality feed.
Don't get scared when you are bent over cleaning out a waterer and you have 3 or 4 of these stinkers jump onto your back and run up to your shoulders when you stand up.
Don't wear sandals if you have shiny red painted toenails into the coop, they love to think they can give you a better pedicure than you have!
They are like most girls, they love big shiny diamonds...only they want to eat them!
And shiny dangling earrings are just too much for them to resist when they are on your shoulder!
That's all I can think of at the moment...
