New member here. Found this site when I Googled to find out what one of my new chickens is. Cool! I have a small, free range flock of mixed chickens in Texas, between Houston and College Station. Some came from Tractor Supply, and my latest were from a friend who was moving out of state. The TSC ones are mainly Cuckoo Marans, including a rooster (I paid for pullets). Two are who knows? Were supposed to be Americanas - nope. New ones include a super cute bantam rooster and 2 other hens (still locked up so Big Boy doesn't kill Scotty). One looks to be Buff Orpington. The 3 young pullets are my adventuresome teenagers. Two appear to be Delaware, but still searching to figure out 'Blue'. Silver head/cape, med gray wings, dark grey body and tail, and blue/grey legs. No ear tufts, like an Americana, but she is still young. As my username implies, I raise alpacas, and my chickens free-range to clean up bugs and parasites. Eggs are great, but the hardest part is finding where they lay. They refuse to go back and lay in the hen house after a big rat snake went after one of the broody girls (he's not pestering anymore). Two weeks ago, I found they had nested in my burn cage - after I had burned it down. Over a dozen eggs.
