Hello everybody!

We've had chickens for about 7 months. A friend surprised us with 10 chicks! We didn't have a coop or did we know ANYTHING about how to raise them. My husband quickly had to build a coop. The chicks were kept in a sunroom so it was nice and cozy in there for them in the meantime. After they grew up a bit, we noticed that the majority of them looked like roosters! 7 out of 10 were roosters so, unfortunately (and broke my heart), we had to give them away. We kept the 3 hens and then adopted 6 more hens so now we have a total of 9. No roosters at this time due to noise factor in my neighborhood. Still lots to learn! Winter is approaching (strangely, no major snow yet as we typically are snowed-in in January! Thanks for reading!

Welcome to Backyard Chickens. This is a great place to explore and hang out. Make sure hardware cloth not chicken wire and no drafts.
Birds can take cold once they have feathers.
