Hi everyone. I'm excited to finally join the forum.

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

New to chickens (well; have had them 13 weeks now) and have A LOT to learn.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

13 - 13 week old straight run chickens. I believe 6 cockerels, 5 hens, and 2 uncertain. One pullet has vision problems.

(3) What breeds do you have?

Barnyard mix of brown egg layers.

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?

Loving to learn their personalities. But, feeling a bit overwhelmed right now with so many cockerels!

(5) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

Married with adult children and 3 grandchildren, a house cat and 3 barn cats. The dog passed away last summer and we'll get a new one sometime. We both work full time and are trying to learn to become more self sufficient as we can.

(6) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D

Recommended by the person I got the chickens from. I've been learning a lot reviewing many of the topics and questions and finally decided to join so I can ask questions too.

Congrats on becoming a chicken person! You've come to a great place to get advice and support with your new adventure.

As mentioned, you can rehome your extra boys or start a separate rooster flock. As for your little girl with the vision issue, in many cases all it takes is a little accommodation and she should be able to live a fine life.

I'm sorry you lost your dog. You'll know when you are ready to bring a new dog into the family.

Welcome to BYC; we're here to help in any way we can. All you have to do is ask! Best wishes with your flock!
