Chirping
1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Yeah, I’m pretty new to owning chickens. My mom used to own them when we lived in New Hampshire though I was too young to remember them. We moved to South Carolina and we got chickens about three weeks ago. (We got four more because we love them a lot)
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
We currently have ten chickens!
(3) What breeds do you have?
So, for the first six we aren’t entirely sure what they are (my mom and I didn’t think to take pictures of the breeds…yeah I know) We think two of them are Araucana chickens, two white ones (Not entirely sure which ones they are but they’re pecky), one gray multi-color chick and one that’s possibly a New Jersey Giant. For the new chicks we got they’re two Sapphire Gems and the other two are (supposed to be) a Cinnamon Queen and Rhode Island Red!
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Honestly I really like interacting with them and watching them. They’re always fun to pet and watch them run around with their favorite treats in their mouth. And their chirping is soothing.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I like to read, write, play video games and draw. Or do anything animal related.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
My parents work at Home Depot and my mom works at the warehouse so she has more days off to do things like build the chicken coop and such. I’m probably going to work the same job so we have more free time to do things. We also have a lot of pets, four dogs, a cat, a turtle, a parrot and three Guinea pigs (excluding the chickens).
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
My friend recommended it to ask a question about one (two?) of the new chicks I got. He knows a lot more about chickens than I do since he studied to be a chicken vet. That and I don’t know a lot about them in general so it’s nice to be able to ask knowledgable people questions if I have any instead of always relying solely on the internet. And I only found out about this website yesterday from said friend.
And just because I love him, here’s my dog, Finn!
