Hi. New to doves with one about to hatch

Kaytee hand feeding formula

So is that just a syringe?

We think we have worked the problem out as I just happened to catch it being fed this morning.
Dad is feeding it but mum is mostly just watching though she did have a little try. Dad is being proactive though and looking for bub where mum doesn't seem to quite get that keen. Thought dad seemed to be nagging her though lol

I think if we can supplement till it's a little stronger, has its eyes open to search better (seem to be opening a bit today) and mum gets the idea we will be ok.

Yup. Plastic puppy syringe with the whole tip ciut off and Saran Wrap is rubber banded over the opening and a small slit cut into the Saran Wrap. Soup consistency.

Cool thanks. I gave it some from the bag method but it's a bit messy. That sounds a lot easier.

I walked out just as dad was finishing feeding it again so just topped it up a little bit.

How many ml etc should I be giving it? I went by crop but is there a more scientific method? Don't want to overfill.

This is tricky. @casportpony and I never came up with a specific amount. I fed until the crop was full, but not tight. I used hot tap water to make the formula and served it warm.
I tagged Kathy, hope she'll jump in.

Yep as our friend said just supplement feeding until he has a full crop! Keep him under his parents though!

I agree, it is tricky. I have one that's four days old today, so I'll try to get some pictures of it before and after feeding. I'll also weigh it before and after and that will tell us how many ml's it ate.

WHAT?!?!? A baby!!!!! Awwwww a new one!!!!
I was really surprised at how big a full crop actually was! Mine looked like little stuffed turkeys when they were done eating.

When this new one was 12 grams it was eating 3ml, which is 25% of it's weight. I have no idea if this is enough, but I know it's not too much.
