Starting off with chickens is so exciting! As for friendly breeds, people on the internet might say a certain breed is so friendly and all, but just like people, each and every chicken has their own personality, therefore you never really know what you're gonna get! So when a source says that one breed is friendly, that's just in general.
Here's some breeds that tend to be friendly.

Red sex links (not a breed but rather an umbrella term for many different hybrids.)
Silkies
Orpingtons
Australorps
Sapphire gems (hybrid. I have heard from like every person on here that their Sapphire gem is sooooo friendly)
Plymouth rocks. I love the barred and white varieties.
Marans
Wyandottes

Their personality also depends on how you raise them. The more you socialize with them, the more friendly they are typically.

Hello! Welcome to BYC! Getting birds that will thrive in you climate makes caring for them a bit easier! I will add that Black Jersey Giants are very friendly if handled frequently as chicks! True lap chickens! They are cold hardy and do ok in the heat with shade and cool water to drink.
