Hello everyone: We've just hatched our first batch of chicks and I couldn't have done it without BYC. Every time I panicked & Googled for info, it was the BYC forum posts came up on my screen with good, practical advice. The most important thing I learned was PATIENCE. Also, that I wasn't alone feeling stressed, sleep deprived, worried nothing would hatch or scared that I'd done everything horribly wrong. And if I was obsessive in checking the bator all the time, at least I was in good company! When I figure out how to navigate this site I will proudly post pics of our 7 brand new Chantecler chicks.javascript:insert_text('

My name is Patricia & my husband and I live on a farm just outside Toronto, Canada with our 2 children, 4 horses, cattle, 2 dogs, 2 budgies, 2 dozen hens (Red Sex Link & Chantecler) and now 7 fluffy chicks. We hadn't planned to hatch our own but after buying a dozen Chantecler pullets recently from a farm where they were ranging freely alongside roosters, we just couldn't resist the opportunity, even though the hens were young & untried and winter is on the way.
So thank you for all the words of wisdom -- I can't wait to check out the current forums!
