New to BYC, however I have been reading the site for several months now. I am a nurse , on a VERY tight budget , making an attempt to start a medium organic/free range chicken farm with 14 acres left to me by my mother who is now walking with angels. I have 3 kiddos and a DH who is in nursing school full time. Hopefully, I can make our dreams come true.

Welcome! Yup, I think many of us are raising chickens on a shoestring budget. There are lots of ideas on how to build things with what you have on hand: brooders, coops, feeders, waterers, nest boxes, etc. If you want, check out my "My Coop" link on the left by my name as I took this approach, building my coop from materials I had on hand. At my blog site, www.littlewolf.org, there are other articles too, on my brooder, for example. But, I'm not the only one and there are tons of others with great ideas, which I'm sure you've seen as you've watched the site this past few months.
