Hi there - I am new here

Wow, gorgeous place you have there! Very nice looking chickens too! If you didn't say they came from a mixed flock I would've guessed they were purebred.

Looks like you have some Barred Rocks, White Rocks and Red Sex-Links. The Sex-Links are the ones that look like this:

they are my special favorites

. I'd say you have White Rocks rather than Leghorns because you said you're getting brown eggs and the hens in the picture are much heavier and have a more horizontal carriage than a Leghorn would.

ok, white rocks they are then! I have no idea - they did come from a huge mixed group of chickens, the farmer's son hatched them out for me and he said "who knows what kinds they are or what mixes" - I think he said he did have purebreds - barred rocks and RIR mainly - I assumed the whites were leghorns, but I was just guessing. They do lay brown eggs. One hen lays near-white eggs, but the rest brown - and there are 4 white hens so I'm positive they are laying brown eggs and not white. My tan hens look exactly like the picture of your red-factors! I assumed they were mixed RIR/white. Neat!

I just ordered a group of 25 chicks from the hatchery - really excited to get them in the beginning of April - my first purebred (known) chickens! You all have got me going! Could have gotten another batch of "mutts" from the farmer's son for free - but nooooooooooooooo. LOL!!

That's about what they are! red, buff and gold Sex-Links use a red colored male like a Rhode Is. Red, with a silver gened female like a White Rock. The resulting offspring are sex-linked; the females are as you see in the picture, a sort of buff color with white accents, but the males are whitish with a few red feathers.

They are very popular for brown egg production even replacing Rhode Island Reds in most factory farms! I have found them to be very sweet affectionate hens with cute personalities.

Lucky you with chicks coming! That is always so exciting, what breeds did you order?

well, that means I have to remember. I know I kind of went crazy - had to order 25! I know there are several silver wyandottes - one rooster and a few hens - and some bantams - RIR I think - one rooster and a few hens - and a black star? rooster and some hens. Then just hens - a few more barred rocks and RIR. Maybe a few others I can't remember. I had to wait until april for delivery because I'll be out of town the last week of march. Exciting!
