I have two questions..

1. Why do some of my girls eggs, occassionally, have a blood spot when I crack them?
sickbyc.gif
And are they safe to eat?

2. And most of my girls have 'No Feathers" on their butts!

They look like red-bottomed baboons..

... No kidding! And, I bought all hens. Can one be so dominate that she rides the others like a rooster?? I recently acquired a banty rooster, Hamlet, but he just got here, and I KNOW, he's not the culprit... IDEAS?? Anyway, THANKS FAMILY!!

Not sure about the blood spots....could your chickens be molting the reason they don't have any feathers so to speak of on their little butts.

dominant hen mounting other hens? yes, at times

blood spots: ". . . they are caused by the rupture of a blood vessel on the yolk surface during formation of the egg or by a similar accident in the wall of the oviduct. . .

As an egg ages, the yolk takes up water from the albumen to dilute the blood spot so, in actuality, a blood spot indicates that the egg is fresh. Both chemically and nutritionally, these eggs are fit to eat. The spot can be removed with the tip of a knife, if you wish." Iowa Egg Council
