Thank you for the warm welcomes. I was able to find out the county ordinance for roosters, and we would be allowed to keep her if she's actually a "he." As far as the other implications I suppose I'd need to do some research, lol.

Welcome to BYC from El Dorado County wine country up in the Western Sierra Foothills! If MY opinion counts, the only issue is if you can keep a rooster, and you can. Settled. Roosters really enhance a flock. I have had experience with many roosters - many, many roosters - and only had one bad one. Give Buttercup plenty of ladies, teach him to be respectful of you, respect and understand his desire to protect his hens (once he's old enough to be FlockMaster) and enjoy the flock dynamics!
