I have 8 layers currently, and would love to have more but I live in the city limits, and that is all I can legally keep. I just ordered 25 day old fryers, and I'm starting to panic just a little! (They are permitted since they are not going to mature, and juveniles don't count in the census. I just need to get them some housing for when they are old enough to be outside.) I have a large tote and a heat lamp and shavings and feeders to get started with.
I have had chickens in the past, without consulting the city regs, and it seemed pretty effortless. They had more room, and I even had some Cornish Cross meat birds that roosted and were very active, when they weren't eating! But it has been a few years, and I'm sure I will need advice. I contacted someone through a forum post here about purchasing a chicken tractor. Still trying to figure out where they will sleep at night!
