Hi all,

Thinking of getting some quails for their eggs. Never owned any other birds before. I'm trying to find info on Organic and soy/corn-free Feed. I believe I have found something, but it is for chickens and only 15% protein. I understand that Quails require 20-25% protein. It seems that this Mash would make a good 'base', I want to know if I can simply add extra ingredients to the mix to make it suitable for Quails (my understanding is that the only reason chicken feed is not suitable for Quails is because it lacks protein. If that is so, then the solution should be relatively simple to fix by just adding protein. But if there is some other reason why chicken feed is not good for quails, then that makes things harder).

Today is my first day 'looking into' this, so I am still figuring it all out.

Thanks all.

Welcome to BYC! Quail require very different feed to chickens. From my understanding quail can be fed chicken feed, but would have to be given a lot of supplements. Game bird feed is more suitable for quail and can be found in most feed stores. There is also a game bird starter feed for chicks.

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

You may want to try to repost this to the section specifically for quail. You might get more answers there.
Thank you, I will migrate myself over there haha

Thank you. I see you are in Australia, same here. Do you know of any organic and/or soy free mixes for game birds? So far I have had zero luck finding anything here in Australia (the only one was the Country Heritage Organic Soy Free Mash but only has 15% protein (thats the one I was referring to in my intro).

The only other ones are only in USA which obviously prohibits those options.

I just really want soy free feed because I know that eggs are only as good as the food the bird ate. And I am sensitive to many foods, thats why I am trying to avoid soy getting into the end product.
