Good evening everyone. So we are brand new to this, and this forum has been a huge lifesaver! From tips on chicken toys to whether or not it is okay if they are sometimes eating the sand I put in the chicks brooder for dust baths.
We recently purchased 8 chicks....we are allowed 7 within our city limits but were told to get an extra because it was normal for one or two to not survive.
All of our chicks are growing like weeds, and now we are in a panic to get the coop finished, we expected to have more time, but their wing and tail feathers are in, starting to get back feathers and they have tripled in size.
I think we are feeding them too well or something =p
It would seem that we may have 1-2 males in the batch which are not allowed within the city limits, but only time will tell.
Pic is of the chicks in their first brooder, taken on March 5th (we have since moved them to a bigger, more secure one to protect them from the cat)
