Hi what happened ?????

Hi got a hen who had two chicks normally I check every night to make sure they got water and stuff but didn’t the other day and now one of the chicks have disappeared they are some rat holes but they have been there for ages so was it a rat or what can’t see any feathers

A snake could easily get in through a rat-sized hole, as could other small predators such as mink. How is the coop area secured?

A lot can happen to a chick. Several predators that aren’t a problem for full grown chickens can easily get a chick. It could have gotten stuck somewhere. I’ve had to “rescue” several chicks from fences and doors and things when they could have just walked around.

Could he have wandered away through a hole? Rats, snakes, and mice don't normally hurt full grown hens but will easily nab baby chicks. What does your setup look like?

Did you lift up mama to see if the chick was lost in a mass of feathers?

Yes it might be a snake they were just in a stable with netting across the door but we don’t see a lot of snakes here x

Yes I haven’t thought of a snake but that would make more sense

I haven’t found the body or anything but I’m going to clear it all out tmr to make sure

I’ll get a pic tomorrow but the holes are filled up with straw and other bedding but maybe some aren’t Yes I have looked to see if the chick is loos in feathers and didn’t see it. I’ll get a pic later today
