Hi everyone,
I'm excited to learn more about raising backyard chickens! We are preparing to get our first girls, hopefully in the next couple weeks. We're planning on 4 hens (though I've heard a thing or two about "chicken math"

) Any advice for this novice is appreciated! Thanks!

Have you decided on breeds yet?

We have not. How do you choose? (Don't say get them all

) We're in Wisconsin, so we're looking at winter hardy birds that are friendly & good layers. We have a 2yo & 4yo who will be participating in the chicken raising. We're planning on having 4 & we are allowed up to 12. Any recommendations?

Our gogolde ssex links, Barred Rocks, and Partridge rocks are VERY cold hardy,although I wouldn't suggest the partridge rock...mine got even stockier than my BRs and they don't lay much.
