I am excited about joining!! I look forward to learning more about chickens.
I had a disabled chicken named Charlie years ago. She was a school hatching and one of her legs was on backwards. She also had a lot of problems with becoming egg bound and eventually developed an ovarian cyst. I took her to an avian specialist and she had surgery but did not live long after that. She was very special to me!!
I now had a baby chick that I bought from a local farm supply store. They call him/her a meat chicken. I stood and watched her in her pen at the store. The other chicks were eating her alive. I asked 5 different employees in a 45 minute period to please remove her. They said ok and walked away and never came back. I finally could not take it any longer. She was a bloody mess and the other chick were pulling off her flesh and eating her. Even though the sign said no one was to open the pens I finally reached inside and removed her and took her to the register and bought her. I have not regret it one bit. She is a real joy!! I have named her Lane!!

Glad you joined us! I hope poor little Lane has recovered from her ordeal and is doing better now.

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join the flock! Lane has been very lucky to have found you and I wish you the very best of luck with her in the future. Have you checked out our learning centre? Lots of super articles there that I'm sure you will find most helpful. ~ https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center

Good luck and enjoy your time here on BYC

Welcome to Backyard chickens - thank you for rescuing the chick. It's a crime that the feed etc. stores are allowed to sell live birds. It's obvious most of the employees couldn't care a bit about them and don't know chickens from bricks.
