Hi everybody. First post for me.

My name is Rob. If anyone is wondering the origins of my login name, Carlos Zaragoza is a fictional character from a folk song about a fighting rooster named "Gallo del Cielo".

My wife bugged me for years to build a coop so we could raise chickens. I resisted for a long time, thinking of it as just one more chore for me to clean it all the time.

April 15 she showed up with some chicks (the maximum allowed in our city ordinances), a brooder box, heat lamp and some feed, so I started building the coop.

I am not 100% up to speed on all the breeds. What I do know is:

1 rhode island red
1 wyandotte (silver and black - really pretty)
2 americaunas
1 barred rock ?
2 sexlets of some sort (one looks almost exactly like the RIR and the other is kind of golden colored)
1 ??? - I'll have to post a photo of her and see if anyone knows her breed. My wife picked her up a week or so later from another feed store and she cannot remember her breed.

We just got our first eggs this week!

I have some questions but I will post them in the appropriate forums!

Thanks!

Hi Rob, welcome to BYC! My chicken adventure started the same way. I came home from work one night and we had 4 hens in need of a home. Chickens are now a dear and important part of our lives. The BYC community has been awsome, helping us understand our chicken family, through the bumps in the road and putting a smile on our faces as we read the posts. Enjoy all this site has to offer!
