Welcome to the site! If you are feeling a little crafty, it is easy to cut wire fencing into the shape of a box and place them over your herbs to protect them from the chickens..rabbits too!. Chicken wire is inexpensive. Find an old cardboard box that fits nicely over the plant you wish to save. Make sure there is plenty of room for growth. Take the cardboard box and cut down one of the folded edges and lay out the cardboard box completely flat over the chicken wire laying flat as well. The cardboard box is now a template. Take a jumbo sharpie marker and follow every shape and slot of the cardboard box. Cut the chicken wire to duplicated the shape of the box. You can take a board to bend the wire on the folds to make it look more professional as well.Hello chicks,
I've been keeping bantams in my garden since 2013. Just got some bigger herbs and I'm hoping for some advice.

(Note: there is no need to cut out or trace the top flaps of the box.)
Place the cage you just created over your herbs. You will have to drive down a couple of small stakes to tie them down because your chickens will be hopping on the cages. They will poop on you herbs.. you will need to water your garden after each chicken visit day. The birds will fertilize your garden, but you already know that, that's why you are allowing them to enter your garden.
