Hi!

Hi, make yourself at home here!

Since you like baking, drop in on the Any Home Baker's thread (there's a link to it at the bottom of this post)...always room in the kitchen for another baker!

Following the rules here...

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

We purchased a home last year that came with chickens. I think they were Rhode Island Reds; they're deceased now, but we got chicks this spring from Paul Smith out of TX (as a gift from someone!) as well as a few random additions from a family member with too many.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
We have 18 chickens.

(3) What breeds do you have?
Ameraucanas directly from Paul Smith in TX (splash, blue wheaton, and wheaton varieties I believe; maybe one black rooster/cockerel? - I'm pretty clueless!)
We also have five random hens from a family member who lives in town and didn't have room for all of their chicks. Really no clue what they are; one's a polish breed I believe and maybe a couple of easter eggers in there.

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
The friend who gifted us the ameraucanas. :)

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Reading, keeping a pretty rough looking garden, my littles, camping, baking

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
We've been married five years and have two little ones with one due in November. I'm a SAHM and love living a rural life (both my husband and I grew up on acreage/farms). I've never had chickens, but I'm very excited to learn more!

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D
I was referred here by Julie Mitzel; just found out about this place today! :)
