Oh my gosh yes! My 5 year old is especially into this whole "farmer" stuff haha. He asked me this morning if he could help me clean up the poop and use the poop wagon he got me for Christmas
I echo that they are just establishing the pecking order.
Are your children tending to the chickens? It’s so nice having eager little ones feed, water, and collect eggs.I’m afraid of even freeze dried worms, so the LO doles them out too!
I hope you find yourself some great new friends here. Good luck with the predators too!

Thank you. Yes, losing those girls was heartbreaking. I never thought I would grow such an attachment to chickens! I grew up in suburbs and was never one to like farms or dirty animals etc. And here I am with 5 acres and a family raising chickens (and loving it!) haha. I will definitely take a look around, I look forward to learning!Hi!Welcome to BYC! There is so much to learn about flock protection, and I am also a victim of losing chickens to a predator I did not consider. It's a complicated issue. You can build fort Knox, or you can determine the particular predators in your area and fight against that. We have forums on coop and run building as well as forums on predators. I hope you will explore and find what works for you!! I'm so sorry for your losses!!!

When I had sand in the coop, the LO was 3. She used to help with that. Now she can rake or shuffle straw bedding, but I don’t let her go crazy without a bandanna. She is 5, and has all of her own coop and building tools to help me.Oh my gosh yes! My 5 year old is especially into this whole "farmer" stuff haha.
