Hi!

Hello and welcome! I put off getting chickens for several years because I was afraid we wouldn't have time for them with two young chilcren (a two- and four-year-old). We finally started our flock last May, and I wish we had started it sooner, they are so much fun, and not that time-consuming. The hardest part was getting the coop and run set up because we're not builders. I wanted a shed-size structure and that didn't seem like a beginner's project. I was going to buy and convert a shed, but ended up finding a pre-made 12 ft x 7 ft coop at a shed company and having it delivered. Surely, not the cheapest option but worth it to me to save the time--life is kind of a whirlwind right now with two kids under five. We also have two dogs that I don't trust around the chickens. I made the chickens a large run out of chain link fence with bird netting over the top to protect them from hawks (and our dogs). The run isn't totally secure, but I'm not worried about day time predators right now and the chickens are locked in what seems (to me) to be a secure coop at night.

Good luck in your chicken endeavors. I'll keep my fingers crossed that your husband comes around. If I worked in a hatchery, I'd probably have about a hundred chickens. hah!
