Hi all! I've just joined BackYard Chickens, but am not new to the site. I've been reading forum posts for the past few years since I've wanted chickens. This site is so great for learning! I finally joined because I finally had a question that I couldn't find an answer to on the forums.

My chicken adventure started last year. I have a flock of 5 laying hens. I have 2 Rhode Island Reds (Wren McCormack & Peggy), 2 Isa Browns (Buffy the Egg Layer & Miso), and 1 Silver Laced Wyandotte (Maleficent). I love having fresh eggs and being able to share them with my friends and family. I also love the unique personality each girl has. They have specific preferences for food, roosting locations, dust bathing, getting my attention, etc... I've loved birds for a long time. I have a 20 year old cockatiel named Chilly, and am an avid birder, so I was not surprised when I fell madly in love with each of my "chickies." In addition to backyard chickens I love gardening, photography, and cooking. I'm also involved with dog rescue, and am passionate about animals, nature, and the outdoors in general. I have a wonderful husband who is completely on board with my crazy chicken aspirations (except when it comes to getting a rooster) and our children all have fur or feathers. In addition to the feathered-family members, I have Jasper, a 95lb. pointer mix pup and his cat, Chief Brody. A couple years after adopting Brody, we foster failed on a chubby little beagle mix named Gracie. I'm a middle school reading teacher trapped in a science teacher's body. I love teaching my students about country living and being outdoors, as my school is in an urban area. I look forward to being an active member of the BYC community!
