Well, we have had chickens for about 7 years, but a few years before that we had two PET chickens given to us. They were very tame and my children enjoyed them but a neighbor called and complained and we had to give them away. Our city later decided we could have a few chickens with no roosters allowed. I presently have a silver leghorn, a Black Sex Link, a RIR,and 2 BO. I also have two juveniles - a barnvelder and a welsummer. I enjoy watching my chickens, they are mostly free range during the day, and are just fun to watch. We definitely enjoy having fresh eggs, and my grandkids have had such a great time with them too. We also like to garden, but are a limited with our chickens and city lot, but a small garden is better than none. We have inherited a year old bearded dragon which is quite different for us but I have a hard time saying no to my kids. We have 3 adult kids, 3 grandkids with hopefully more in time. My husband was laid off in Feb and is looking for work. He may retire or he may find another job. He is a software engineer. I am a full time homemaker and respite foster care provider. I have looked at BYC for years, but this year, one of my favorite girls is sick and I wanted to get some help.
