(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? Definitely new to this! Just had my first four chicks hatch the end of April and had 6 more hatch a couple days ago!
(2) How many chickens do you have right now? 10 in all, 4 that are around 5 weeks and 6 that are about 4-5 days old.
(3) What breeds do you have? I have no idea! I recently asked about one of my teenagers and was told they might be a Silkie mix, others have been thought to be Leghorns. And some I still don’t know! They are all pretty adorable to me! Some with striking colours, extra toes, fancy feathered feet, one with a scissor beak. I’m pretty certain two of my older ones are cockerels and the other two are hens. The littles I have no idea but I did get one or two more with feathered feet and one more with 5 toes. I’m excited to find out what they all are!
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
It’s something I feel really excited about...from incubating the eggs to hatching, to watching them grow from fluff balls to feathers...it’s all really beautiful! My children all get excited about it too so it’s something we all enjoy together!!
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I really enjoy other kinds of animals as well and hope one day to have a hobby farm. I enjoy reading, writing, and researching and trying new things!
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. I am a mama of 6 kids ages 2 to 17. My husband and I have been together over 18 years...I’m 38 and I have been homeschooling my kids since last year. I’m Catholic, have ADHD, and am allergic to every type of food...( it just feels that way) and I really enjoy my life.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I found BYC by googling questions about chickens a while back and I found myself checking in often especially during my first incubating experience...I prefer to read advice rather than watch videos so this was perfect for me. I recently joined because I saw others posting questions about the breed of their chickens and wanted to do the same for one of mine!
