:frow Welcome from New Orleans. 3 is really the ideal number IMHO. Your hen may get lonely while you are at work. I don't know how long you are away from home, I promise your chickens will be as happy to see you when you get home as a dog would. Have fun and good luck
 
My friend Arline has had house chickens for many years, different breeds etc. However the end of last year one of them apparently brought in "Marek's disease," from wild birds (?) in the yard. She lost her three house birds a day apart.
