Hi! I'm Ruth, from South Africa...
I've recently (May '22) purchased some land on which to build a homestead and it came with chickens. 5 of them...1 too and 4 older hens most likely majority RIR genetics. 2 hens have died since. 1 managed to raise 15 chicks before she croaked (she choked on a frog!) And another raised 2 more smaller broods. We've recently added 15 White Hylines to the mix and culled a good handful of roosters so now we have 45 altogether.
They free range wild during the day and sleep in a deep litter coop at night, although we are hoping to get an egg mobile going soon as we'd love to have them working the soil.
