New to the forum and fairly new to chicken raising. We have 19 chickens. 6 2 year-old Blue Australorps (1 Rooster 5 hens, they were all supposed to be hens) 4 18 month old Rhode Island Reds, 4 1 year old easter-eggers, and 5 Lavender Orpingtons. other than losing 2 of our Reds to a hawk last year we have been pretty lucky in that we have not had many issues with them. Just learning to ho dead with an occasionally ornery unexpected rooster. They are allowed free reign across our back yard although they live in a large coop we built for them. Do have a run for them but dont keep them in the run except for when we go out of town and have others take care of them for us.

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow

So glad you decided to join us. So sorry about your losses to hawks, :hugs free ranging can be dangerous business! Glad all is quiet in the hawk front now.

Make yourself at home here and welcome to our community!

Welcome. I have hawk and black vulture issues - way too many. When a hawk tried to tango with my rooster (he is fine - I heard the scuffle and came running), I increased their run area to 50x60 hardware clothed the sides and skirted, and netted the entire area.
