Does that tarry poop stink bad? Was it just for a day? If yes, then cecal poop. I've seen those types of poop on occasion from mine too, probably cecal or something they ate from free-ranging.

If you think it's beyond that, then you may want to post that in our emergency forum as it could mean other things and I don't want to just suggest a bunch of stuff here.

I didn't mean did your coop smell, silly. I meant your chicken's .

They will occasionally do nasty ones called cecal poop or and it can even look bloody and stinks horribly if you're there when they do it.

Welcome. I am going with cecal poop if the poop stinks more than other poops.

You built an really nice coop. I would definitely replace the chicken wire with 1/2 inch hardware cloth to keep your babies safe. Also, make an apron around the run. It is when you secure the hardware cloth on the bottom and run along the ground 18-24 inches and then cover with dirt or rocks. That will keep digging predators out.
