Hi all!

My husband and I live in Tallahassee, FL and will be adding a few chickens to our family soon. We have 3 dogs, 1 cat, 5 goldfish in 2 ponds, innumerable squirrels (!), and 2 tarantulas. Yes, tarantulas.

Spring has sprung here in Tally and it is gorgeous!!! The azaleas have all went splodey, everything's green, and the pollen is almost unbearable. But we love it and can't wait to get our mini-flock up and running!

If anyone has any advice for 2 newbies, go for it. We already have a subscription to Backyard Poultry and plan to purchase Storey's Guide to Raising Chickens prior to getting our hens.

Thanks in advance to everyone and we look forward to reading every single post (j/k!).

Welcome to BYC!! I hope you enjoy your chickens you will get! What kind are you getting? I really enjoy EEs!

When you first get chicks, if they act lethargic you can put sugar in their water to give them energy... some people say you can use red cool aid, too!! Always dip the chicks beaks in the water gently so they know it is water. As soon as the other chicks hear one drinking they all run to the water.

If you have any questions i will try answer them, just PM me! I like getting PMs.
