Hello, I'm a person! Obviously, I am posting here to introduce myself
I am Fleabus. Well, Fleabus is actually one of my cats, but I have stolen his name for use on the internet
I do not have any chickens currently, but have in the past. My dad got them when I was young, but sadly they all died or just disappeared 0.o, I think those few ran away...
But that was a while ago. I never really took care of them, they were my dad's, but I did cuddle them
We had four easter eggers, a Rhode Island Red, and a Barred Plymouth Rock, I think.
I have a lot of other pets, too. My mom, sister, and I have two dogs, a corgi/some kind of hound mix named Dan and his "sister", Jackie, who I think is part border collie and part retriever of some kind, and three cats, an old orange tabby named Peter, a half-deaf white cat who had blue eyes named Sagwa, and big, fat, fluffy, white and gray Fleabus Maxamus, who we all take care of. Then in my bedroom I have a 2 year old, very loud but awesome sun conure named Laka, a 5 month old female bearded dragon called Tobi, two sweet rats, Butters and Nezumi, a chubby leopard gecko named Abby, three hermit crabs who I call Panic!, Pyramus, and Thisbe, a pair of parakeets, Winter and Mello, Mello's brother, Near, who had to be separated because of fighting, and a grumpy cockatiel named Greylock, who lives in my mom's classroom with Near. Their cages are right next to each other and Greylock and Near seem to be bonding
. Oh, and we can't forget Bobo! He's a two year old red breasted button quail, and is completely adorable when he crows! I originally had two, but his friend died a month after I got them and he's been alone ever since, but I'm going to get him a girlfriend pretty soon.
My sister also has four guinea pigs, Rita, Led, Penny, and Mr. Brightside, who is actually female. And I have a rubbermaid container under the table in my room full of crickets, but I hate them
They chirp at night and smell, but my lizards love to nom them!
Anyway, on to my interest in chickens.
I'm not sure why or how, but I just decided that I like chickens a lot around last month. As you can tell by all of the pets, I really love animals
My mom thought it would be fun, too, because she cooks a lot and would use the eggs. And my sister agrees because she thinks they are cute. She wants a silkie
We've decided to get four hens. I've pretty much decided that we are going to incubate the eggs, and we will probably get six eggs in case some don't hatch or one turns out to be a rooster. I have read a lot about styrofoam incubators, and have decided to build one.
Still not sure where we'll get the eggs, but we were thinking about Red Roof Hens, if anybody knows of it.
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that I absolutely LOVE Wyandottes.
Anyway, if we got a half dozen eggs from Red Roof Hens it would be two Blue Laced Red Wyandotte eggs, two Easter Eggers, and the other two would be either Silkies or Cochins or one of each.
If we decide not to incubate, which I would definitely do eventually anyway, maybe with Button Quail eggs, it is likely that we would order from Meyer Hatchery because they do small orders, probably two Wyandottes, a Columbian and a Blue Laced Red, a Speckled Sussex, they are my mom's favorite, she thinks they are really pretty, and a Silkie.
We have not decided on a coop design yet, but are really leaning towards a plain, normal run, 15' by 6' or something, I'll decided when I draw it out, with a simple coop, which would be about 6' by 3'.
Ok. I'm done.
