Hi,

I'm Kris and I live in a city in SW Ontario.

We've had our 3 chickens for almost one year. My DH built them the most awesome red and white Dutch barn-style roost in what is probably the most sheltered part of our yard.

The chickens are the breed Red Sex-Linked Shavers, but I would like to have Araucanas.

They share the back yard (when we let them out of the coop) with an elderly cat and a young retired racing greyhound. Occasionally the greyhound will chase them but there are quite a few places in the yard they've discovered that the dog can't easily get to, and they're not really that scared of her. We also keep a close eye on things when the dog and the chickens are in the yard together. I have a picture of them all browsing for leftovers together.

People are always surprised and interested when I say I keep chickens in the city. We'd had them for 2 weeks before one of our close neighbours found out, and that was because I'd told her!

I found BYC when searching for answers to questions, but a friend also really recommends them, so here I am!

That's cool that they get along and that you have them in the city.
Hope you found answers to your questions.
Best of luck getting the Araucanas.

I live in the city too, and had to tell the neighbor across the street I had chickens. Had them since october, had a rooster for several months even. Granted their dog barks loudly and constantly and she is an older lady but...lol.
