Hello all,
My name is Christy, and I found this site while looking up information on chicks/chickens this morning. I've been researching quite a bit, have my brooder all set up, and we are getting our chicks TODAY! yay!
I live on a small farm near Dayton, Ohio, and we already have three wonderful dogs (two border collie crosses and a GSD/great pyrenees cross), three barn cats, two pet rats, a rabbit, and three horses - plus, we board horses, so we have six total right now.
I've ALWAYS wanted chickens, and we are finally in a place to get them. We'll be starting work on the coop in the next week or so (they are going near our horse barn, and near the garden...but not IN it...I've read they can destroy my garden, but are good for composting? I'm still new to all this, so it's going to be a learning curve.
I've got a BS in Agriculture with Equine Science concentration - so I'm not new to farms, animals, or the work that goes with them. I've cared for chickens, just never had my own. I'm very excited to start on this journey, and cannot wait to get to know you all, too...looks like there's a lot of good information on this site!
