Hello all! This is my first go at raising chickens. I've done so much research and feel that I still have a lot to learn. My chickies are now 6 weeks old. 2 Rhode Island reds, 2 black sex link, and 2 arucanas. They are still inside because I have to make a few modifications to my coop to ensure their safety, and hopefully I can get to that today. Advice and tips are always appreciated and I'm happy to be apart of the chicken community! Even though I don't think my chickies like me very much....

Nice to meet you all in advance!! :D

Welcome!

If your birds are a bit skittish and standoffish at the moment that is normal from what I have seen. Chicks tend to err on the side of caution even with the All-Powerful Food Provider! Most of my birds have gotten much more friendly after starting to lay. It will help if you bring out yummy tidbits throughout the day so that they associate your presence with treats. Good luck!

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

Definitely stop by our learning center for lots of good articles on raising your new birds. Mountain Peeps has left you with the link.

Chicks have to be worked with to help them bond with you. It helps to go sit with them in the coop and run, on the ground, and bring some treats to. Get them climb on you and see you as a positive person in their lives. It is natural for chicks to be scared of things. This is built in them and is what keeps them alive. But you can tame them down greatly over time. Pretty soon you have a bunch of lap babies!!

Great to have you aboard and welcome to our flock!

These are my chickies. I'm hoping that they are all females. I'm missing one because she wasn't very photogenic today.

Thank you all!

Very adorable!! Thanks for sharing!

They look like they love you very much. Chicks do not like to be picked up and only learn to tolerate handling as they age. They will come around soon.

Enjoy these cute babies!

Looks like they ran amok over the feeder or waterer - maybe they don't like finding them empty.

I also have trouble accepting when things are "ALL GONE,"

especially if it's ice cream.

Haha! That was an hour after I picked the feeder and waterer up for like the 5th time....if I don't go check on them 100 times a day they'd probably starve....little poopheads.
