I am a new BYC member in Virginia. I live in Floyd County, about an hour from Virginia Tech, an hour from the NC state line, and an hour and a half from Roanoke. I have kept chickens on and off from childhood.
Right now I have 2 white silkie hens and a roo, a Rhodie, a white Leghorn, and Black Australorp, a Sussex mix, a little black cochin mix, 1 mixed female duck, and 4 male mixed ducks I am trying to rehome. The rhodie and the leghorn are "rescues", they were the sole surviving members of flocks killed by dogs, and are about 3 years old. The rest are about a year old.
I am looking forward to finding some chicken, duck, turkey, geese, and other back yard flock folks close by to help, swap, buy, sell and talk to.

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join the flock! I'm sure you will find the links Mountain peeps very helpfull. Be sure to ask any questions you may have everyone here to help. You have a very mixed flock there that must keep you very busy. Hope you enjoy BYC :frow

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. Black Australorps are my favorite standard breed. I've raised them for years (along with dozens of other breeds), and they are extremely hardy, calm and gentle (my children, and now my granddaughter, made lap pets of them), and excellent layers of large, brown eggs. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock.
