What sort of suggestions is it you are needing?

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome. We are totally new to chickens, my grandparents had a farm and they had chickens but they had a barn. We are looking to only have hens for collection the eggs for our family. what are the best chickens? Our weather is hot in the summer and cold in winter about 40's at night but can get down into the 30's at time. is there a good way to keep them?

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

Lots of great breeds out there that are heat hardy and great layers. Any of the Orpington breeds such as Buff Orpingtons or Black Australorps. Great on the laying and hardy over all. Very docile and friendly too.

You might want to stop by our breeds pages to see what other members are talking about their breeds and also an external web page on the different breeds and their characteristics...

Stop by our learning center too for all kinds of articles on getting started with chickens, building the coop, raising the chicks and keeping your adult flock happy, healthy and safe from predators...https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center

Good luck on this new journey!! If you have any further questions, feel free to ask. Welcome to our flock!
