I have had two chicks in the last days that act like they have hiccups and then die with in a few hrs. Does any one have any idea what is happening?

They are kept inside 90 - 95 under the heat lamp larger bird are in one cage med birds in another and smalls in a third cage is 3' x 5'. Water with quick chick changed daily. fresh food added daily.

are your chicks on papertowels??? If they are on shavings , sometimes they will eat those...it will get caught in their throat.

I have them in 3' x 5' dog cages and they have card board floors that I change every other day. They week old bird have hay in the cage.

we have lost 2 more. We talked with the vet and they have no idea

no they all fill the same I cant find any thing different in any of the birds. So far It has been 1 buff 1 rock 1 sussex and red star

well after talking to 3 different vets the co-op and the usda agent. It seems the birds have punmonia. I hope what they have told me is right and I can get the bird back to a health state. I cant figer out why or how they got punmonia

did they say "brooders pnuemonia"...that is what omphalitis is called and it is an infection of the yolk-sac or navel...the entry point of the organism.

That I dont know no other brids seem to be getting sick and the one that is sick does not seem to be getting better.

If it's just a few chicks, they might have gotten their infections through their yolk sacs. In addition, it is possible that these few birds got shoved to the side of the shipping box or had some pre condition before you got them.
