I think that's a good idea. She may be just mad you didn't check with her first. Too late for that. Maybe a promise of eggs would help. But when folks have not been around young chickens, their hearts melt when they can see them up close. I wouldn't wait for changes in laws, make peace with the neighbors will help you more. Even the rich, wealthy and famous in our state have had to move their chickens when they built and raised in areas "against the law". Hope you don't get hassled by your neighbors. Good luck. Let us know how things go.I hope she doesn't cause any trouble for you. And I hope that the regs will be relaxed soon for you too. And, I wonder that if she were to get an invite to a personal Coop de' Tour that she could see how much time, effort, and love you put into it. Maybe she would 'relax' also. Know that we are pulling for you. Good luck...

Guess I forgot that perhaps folks in my area are overall friendlier than in other areas. I may be just lucky, but my 3 closest neighbors are very friendly and helpful and loved the idea I was getting chickens. I wish this was true for you all.I don't know if inviting a complainer over is a good idea. I believe the best strategy is to keep them hidden. You went to a lot of effort to build your coop to be undetectable, so I say go with that. It would be hard for anyone to complain about your coop if they don't know for sure you have one. Essentially your chickens aren't bothering anyone since they cannot be seen or heard from outside your own property. You have enough space that no one needs to know you even have chickens. If it galls someone that you own chickens, letting them see your chickens won't help. I may be wrong, but if someone hates chickens, I doubt they will ever come around. Hopefully the laws will be changed soon, but until then your chickens are nobody's business but your own. Be careful with whom you share your secrets. Good luck!
Absolutely agrees.....might be just the proof they are looking for to bolster their complaint.I don't know if inviting a complainer over is a good idea. The quote above is from the OP (original poster). Everyone that has kept chickens knows that you will be able to hear them within 150 feet...at some time or another. And if one neighbor finds out, then everybody will find out. Now I don't know about everybody else, but I would rather get in front of the situation and be proactive instead of reactive. My reason is that most of the time, people are more likely to become agitated when they think you are trying to hide something or get something over on them. I would first try to get the "good" neighbors on board as soon as possible before approaching the questionable one(s). Strength in numbers kinda thing. Then maybe the "peer pressure effect" would be enough to silence the naysayer(s). If the naysay(s) rally first, the good neighbors might succumb to the "peer pressure effect". Right now, only Jetpad knows his neighbors and how they might react. My closest neighbor is 101 feet away and the second closest is maybe 150 feet away. I think sound-wise I'll be ok but I've never raised chickens before so I don't know.
Quote: Jeff, not sure if you've read this entire thread, but IIRC jetpad went to the 'authorities', got an answer of NO and decided to build the coop in/for stealth mode.
Hopefully his bet with the risk turns out OK for him....time will tell.
