High details of crop anatomy

Not sure where to post this, so...

I'm looking for a highly detailed description of how the crop works and/or 3D pictures. What I like to know is HOW it moves food from the crop to the stomach and it's actual layout. The pictures I've seen a tube enters top and bottom, this seems food would flow thought.

My, very basic, understanding of the crop is that it is not so much a tube as it is a pouch.
The wild ancestors of chickens had to constantly be on the lookout for predators so when a food source was found they would gorge themselves and fill up the their crop before retreating into safety.
The crop would store the food and slowly move it to the stomach as needed for digestion.
If any of this is wrong someone please correct me.
