High white blood cell count, no interest in food, diarrhea

Update: still tube feeding, but she is showing more interest in food other than kale/bugs. I have put Corid in her water for the last 4 days, and continue to add probiotics/enzymes, too. And her overnight and daytime poop is basically normal now. Still thin, but hopefully that will improve over the next week or so. Today she is dust-bathing and mainly acting like her old self. Getting a blood test on Tuesday to check WBC level.

Update: got the results from the blood test, and the infection is gone! (WBC=7,300; 68% heterophils, 23% lymphocytes, 4% basophils, 5% eosinophils; red blood cell PCV of 49%)

Her poop is back to normal, and she has gained a little weight. We are weening her off tube feeding now (she is eating grains more now).

In other news, I actually saw a small worm in the cecal droppings of my other hen, and a fecal exam was positive for cecal worms. Time to worm them all...

Thanks for the additional thoughts. We are still tube feeding her, and her overnight poop is mostly normal now, but she still has diarrhea/loose poop in the day time. She is starting to show (a little) interest in food other than kale and crickets/mealworms, but not with the vigor of a normal chicken. She is perky and alert, tail feathers up, etc., just not 100% normal.

Did not know that Baytril was ineffective against E.coli - will talk to vet about that.

I did ask the vet a couple weeks ago about clostridium perfringens and while I can't remember exactly what he said, he didn't think it was that.

I am planning on talking with him again today/tomorrow, and getting another blood test this week.

There are a *few* strains of E.coli and pseudomonas aeruginosa that are resistant, but the majority are sensitive to it, so it's a great drug to treat them with! Baytril is what I would use first if I though I was dealing with E.coli or pseudomonas aeruginosa. If that doesn't work I'll be in big trouble, cause anything more powerful needs a prescription.

Great to hear she is on the mend! Keep up with all you are doing for her, I hope she makes a complete recovery!!!
