High Yield Open Pollinated Corn?

I was doing some research and trying to find an open pollinated variety of corn to grow for the livestock. I want a type that produces well. Were in zone 7/8-ish in Tennessee and have excellent soil/sun.

Any ideas?

You could try contacting Seed Savers Exchange to see if they have any recommendations. http://www.seedsavers.org/

I've had good luck with FEDCO's seeds. Their grain seed is in their Organic Grower's Supply. http://www.fedcoseeds.com/ogs.htm

Johnny's Selected Seed carries other forage crop seeds - millet, mangels, and forage turnips, in case you're interested. FEDCO has those also I believe. http://www.johnnyseeds.com/

I am going to order the mangels from Johnny's for next year. I think they'll be a good addition for the goats and chickens.

There's also Southern Exposure Seed Exchange. They have varieties that do well further south. They have some flint/dent corn types as well as two types of gourdseed.

You can try Lancaster Sure Crop Field Corn, its not cheep but a good open pollinated field corn.

That sounds good. Since I don't have many animals, I can afford to spend a bit extra for less seed. Just as long as I get a goodly amount of food from it. Thank you!

If it is for the chickens, I suggest field corn or dent corn instead of sweet corn. It will store better.

Perhaps try Bloody Butcher or Trucker's Favorite.

There have been a couple of really good companies already recommended.

I am looking into that Bloody Butcher. I got my Baker's Creek catalog yesterday. I did a little jump for joy. Everyone of their awesome catalogs is like a subscription to a gardening magazine, LOL.
