Just a thought: will chickens be sensitive to the salt in kelp?

Sea vegetables tend to be higher in sodium than land vegetables–after all, they grow in sea water! Nonetheless, fresh kelp is not high in sodium. Dried seaweed will obviously be a more concentrated source of sodium. In fact, dried kelp granules are often sold as salt substitute.

I have fed it to them a few times, they enjoy it. But I do not plan to use it as a daily feed nor in excess, just a food supplement and treat.

Fresh grass, and lots of moss, we don't like mud. Moss is super easy to gather here, and it keeps things tidy, the grass they like eating.

Nothing like fresh moss in the run and coop, clean happy chickens. I live on an Island in the rain-forest, that can only be accessed by boat or plane, no hay is grown here. So hay, or straw is a very spendy item to get, hence my use of moss, which we have in over-abundance.

Lady, is our best friend.

Too many birds, well for my pen area, so time to expand.

Went out and cut some yellow cedar and juniper poles, for building.

We've started the next 12 X 12 pen, a long way from being done.

Today we are off to go gold panning. Low creeks, no rain for over a week, warm and sunny day, good fun!
