hinge advice please

Hey gang!

I'm trying to get my birds' home ready for winter and need to make the nest box hinge more waterproof. What I have isn't working as I hoped and am looking for new ideas for this one portion. If you watch the video here

I apologize for not keeping on subject and got distracted while filming. PLEASE do not allow the cuteness to distract you from the main issue as it did me.

An old tire inner tube works well.

Get a piece of EDPM pond liner (a good garden center should have this on a roll to buy by the foot) and attach it to the wall with a furring strip above the nest and down well over the hinge area. You'll may have to caulk the top edge.
