Hello! I am a mom of two (11 and 3) with 2 cats and 1 dog. I've wanted chickens since I was a kid, and I have been trying to work towards them since 2010.

Finally, after years of settling down, at age 35, I have the land (.5 acres) and the cooperation from my husband.

We are looking at setting 15 or so chickens (look, I say 15 but I want 20 +1-2 roos) we have gardens all over the place, and our neighbors have 10-20 chickens.

I love my little family, but I am so excited to get started on this journey. A hobby for meeeee!!

I have been researching coops, and runs and everything under the sun for years, but I still have no idea what to do. I am taking a course at Edinburgh on Chickens keeping right now too.

Welcome to BYC!!

Welcome to BYC! I agree with building a large, walkin coop. I love spending rainy days in the coop with my chickens.

Thank you!!! I am hoping to find someone local getting rid of an old shed for a new one, and then turning it into a coop! I saw several on this site that made me aspire to that. Especially if I can build in a little sitting area.
