History of Breeder/Exhibitor Points

Something for the APA/ABA history buffs: I understand how the awarding of Master Breeder and Master Exhibitor works, but I'm curious if anyone knows the history behind why the actual birds aren't awarded points, or if they ever were in the beginning?

I don't think birds care about winning points. They're much more well adjusted than most people.

Probably because the lifespan is short for chickens.
