I'm considering having some chickens - and maybe guineas - for the eggs and bug control, but haven't bought anything yet. There's so much fantastic information here that I haven't stopped reading for days.

If you are looking for an excellent egg provider and bug terminator I say go for the Rhode Island Reds.

Mine have eliminated every ant colony on the property. I have not seen a tick on me in over a month and all the other bugs have declined so much!!

Buff Orpintons and barred rocks are good also!

So when are going to get your chickens or guineas? Don't know exactly where you are but someone in Rocky Mount, NC is selling guineas and turkeys. Do you have a coop yet?
